In addition to the duties and responsibilities laid down in local base instructions the Winchman shall:
· Comply with the regulations and procedures prescribed in this manual.
· Immediately inform the SAR Commander about anything, which might affect the SAR readiness of the helicopter or equipment.
· Be responsible for the medical and SAR equipment at the base.
· Ensure that SAR and medical equipment is present before flight.
· Administer medical treatment to survivors in accordance with qualifications held;
· Act as an observer as required;
· Operate the FLIR as required;
· Operate the Night Sun as required;
· Operate the Mission Management System as required;
· Assist medical personnel in first aid and / or assist in operating the medical equipment in
coordination with responsible medical personnel;
· During winching operations continuously inform the Winch Operator regarding the required helicopter direction by using standard guiding hand signals;
· Ensure that he is in good physical condition.
· Participate in the brief and debrief.
· Ensure that training requirements are met.
· Log all training
· If applicable ensure that all crew members go through basic first aid refresher every 12 months. He should utilize the help and knowledge of the SAR doctor.
This position is based in Sumburgh, Shetlands Islands. The sucessful applicant will be required to reside on the island and live within a radius of 30 miles of the mile.
The successful applicant will be in contact with US ITAR controlled technology, goods and information. As a condition of employment, employees with access to US ITAR controlled technology and goods may be required to undergo an additional screening process as part of the recruitment process.
Qualifications
· 3 months’ previous experience on a dedicated SAR unit as a Winchman on helicopters
· 50 hours as Winchman on helicopters
· 20 hours operating experience in helicopters gained in an operational environment similar to the intended operation
· HCPC registered Paramedic
· no criminal record, safe flying record and the right to reside and work in the UK
