The National Risk and Resilience Department (NRRD) is currently seeking applications from enthusiastic, flexible and motivated individuals with a genuine interest in developing new skills for positions within the full time Special Operations Response Teams. The purpose of SORT is to provide patient care in environments where professional care was previously unavailable. Duties include support to multi agency operations and potential major incidents. Team members also specialise in areas such as Water Incident Response, Confined Space Rescue, Safe Working at Heights, Urban Search & Rescue, 4x4 and Police Firearms Support. SORT personnel also attend around 9000 emergency calls annually.
Applications for the SORT Paramedic positions are invited from existing HCPC registered Paramedics ONLY. Previous experience of SORT / CBRN / NBC operations would be advantageous, but not essential, as comprehensive training will be given.
Important - please note:
Appointments to SORT are made on the understanding that individuals attend and successfully complete the following Scottish Ambulance Service courses:

· 5 day self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Course
· Quick Don CBRN PPE Course

· Support to police tactical firearms operations
The above courses require you to reach and maintain a minimum standard of fitness for which assessments will be carried out on an annual basis. Maintenance of these skills is a pre-requisite for continued employment within SORT.
All SORT posts have the requirement to undertake additional organisational support duties, which include staffing the SORT Response Units, in service training, clinical audit, ACC and logistical support.
You will also be required to deal with sensitive information for which security vetting will be required. (In addition to standard pre-employment checks)
