EMERGENCY AMBULANCE CREW, vacancies across London

You will commence with us as a trainee Emergency Ambulance Crew. During the training course (currently 18 weeks) you will receive a salary of £17,576 or £18,205 dependent upon training location rising to a maximum of £27,623 inclusive after training, then rising in annual increments up to a maximum of £31,596 inclusive. Your exact salary will depend on your location and working pattern. The salaries quoted are based on Inner London Weighting and a shift pattern post training of 25% unsocial hours. Please note some of our training venues/ ambulance station are based in Outer London sites and some of the rotas worked may attract less than 25% unsocial hours.

The London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS) is the largest free ambulance service in the world, caring for more than one-and-a-half million patients every year.  We are the only London-wide NHS Trust and are at the frontline of the NHS in the capital. We serve an area of approximately 620 square miles. Broadly speaking, this is the whole area within the M25.

On completion of your training, you will deliver emergency and urgent care to patients and members of the public. You will work independently as part of an Emergency Ambulance Crew or working alongside and supporting an HCPC registered Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician or another qualified crew member in the provision of high quality effective clinical care. You don’t need a medical background for this role, but you will need to demonstrate your ability to work with people from all walks of life, handle stressful situations & to be flexible in your approach.

The job description and person specification in the application pack identify the key requirements of the role, these include:

A current manual driving licence, valid in the UK, with a maximum of three penalty points. C1 category licence if not already achieved, must be obtained and you’ll need the provisional C1 category on your licence along with completion of the C1 Theory test before we can appoint you. We can provide an interest free loan for successful applicants towards their C1 practical training.
Applicants need to have 1 year driving experience.
Short-listed applicants must successfully complete all relevant assessments, in order to progress to interview. Driving and lifting assessments will also be part of this selection process.

Successful applicants will be required to pass a 26 week training course, based on elements of the IHCD Technician Proficiency Certificate Course, including clinical knowledge and care, lifting and handling, and blue-light driving.
