Job summary
St John Ambulance Lancashire, Transport Services Department are looking to recruit qualified and experienced state registered HPC Paramedics who can work on a casual basis (Bank Staff) and will be responsible for the assessment, care, treatment and transportation of patients in a variety of settings.
Post holders will work in both emergency and non-emergency situations, such as:
* Air medical transport
* Intensive Care, Coronary Care & Neonatal transfers
* Commercial event contracts
* Long distance HDS transfers
All transport staff will attend mandatory training as required.
Strict cleaning regimes are in situ for all ambulance vehicles and station buildings, all staff are expected to maintain these high standards to both internal and external standards.
Based at any required location within Lancashire, the post holder will have their own transport and hold a full UK manual driving licence which they have held for a minimum of two years and have no more than 3 penalty endorsements.
Transport Services require applicants to be physically fit and able to lift and carry patients in a variety of situations.
Transport Services require staff to ensure high standards in personal appearance and to uphold the reputation of St John Ambulance and Transport Services.
Applicants will be expected to complete a fitness for role assessment as well as an interview.
Please note that applicants must be able to demonstrate a current CPD portfolio as well as prove registration and certification.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. To transport and attend to patients and clients within the care of St John Ambulance in accordance with policies and procedures
2. Select and apply in each instance the appropriate patient care procedures in accordance with the Institute of Health and Care Development (IHCD) Ambulance Service Basic Training Manual/IHCD Paramedic Training Manual, out-of-hospital care guidelines published by JRCALC and service Clinical Notes.
3. Maintain professional registration as a Paramedic through the Health Professional Council (HPC) (and any succeeding body).
4. Exhibit standards of personal and professional conduct and performance as required by HPC and its succeeding bodies
5. Because of the nature of the work, this post is exempt of the provision (42) of the rehabilitation of offenders act 1974 (Exemptions) order 1975
6. The post holder will work with minimum of supervision and may be expected to deal with other duties appropriate to their level and post
7. Accurately record patient details of a patient report form as appropriate
8. To ensure that the ambulance vehicle and its equipment and consumable stock is in operational readiness at all times and to report any defects immediately to the Transport Services Department in accordance with the stated policy and procedure
9. To complete clinical assessments on patients and select the appropriate care/treatment
10. To be responsible for the Emergency/Patient Transport Attendant whilst working as a mixed crew
11. To actively participate in stringent cleaning routines on vehicles, equipment and areas of the garaging facilities to ensure effective infection control standards are adhered to
12. To be accountable for daily vehicle inspections (VDI) and the correct reporting of this information via the vehicle mobile date terminal (MDT)
13. To observe and abide by St John Ambulance (Transport Services) policies and procedures
14. To provide treatment up to the post holder's assessed ability
15. To be aware of the patient's social and environmental condition and report any matters of concern to the appropriate person or body
16. To drive ambulance vehicles in emergency/non emergency situations, legally and in accordance with the driving policy and (IHCD protocols) whilst demonstrating:
- Consideration for the comfort and safety of the patient
- Vehicle Sympathy
- Consideration for other road users
17. To undertake the work rote (where applicable) in a flexible manner and to participate in a full 24/7 style rota system. Shifts can be changed after giving 48 hours notice
18. As requested, undertake any other duties/responsibilities, which are considered to be relevant to the post at the request of the management
19. To maintain the professional image of St John Ambulance Transport Services
20. To actively engage in CPD events.
