Job Description
ERS Medical, one of the UK’s largest independent healthcare service providers, offers a range of specialist patient transport and courier services to the NHS and wider healthcare sector across the UK.
Due to continued growth we are currently looking to recruit a number of experienced Paramedics to be based out of our site in Surbiton.
You will need experience of providing patient focused care, treatment and safe transport for emergency and non-emergency patients in a clinically safe environment. You will be required to work 42 hours per week, working 4 on 4 off including days and nights. (Enhanced rates apply)
Pay rates for this role will be circa £48,048 per annum.
Main Purpose of the Job
To provide a patient focussed delivery of care, treatment and safe transport for emergency and non-emergency patients in a clinically safe and professional environment, utilising enhanced skills and regulated best practice when required to do so, adhering at all times to policies and standards inherent within ERS Medical. The Paramedic will drive a range of vehicles provided by ERS Medical under both emergency and non-emergency conditions as required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities of the role
To treat and transport emergency and urgent cases in accordance with IHCD paramedic manual, JRCALC guidelines and ERS Medical protocol
To maintain a professional level of service to the customer in line with contractual requirements.
To comply with all road safety regulations exercising the safe use of road traffic exemptions in emergency driving and undertake emergency driving duties on all types of vehicles operated by ERS Medical, if appropriately qualified and licensed.
To ensure that all equipment provided is kept to the highest standard and any defects or losses are reported immediately.
To ensure that the vehicle provided is cleaned daily and that the vehicle is roadworthy, including fuel, water and oil. Report any defects according to ERS Medical reporting procedure.
To maintain the workplace to a high standard of tidiness and cleanliness, also to ensure ERS Medical premises and vehicle security.
Maintain a high professional image at all times.
To provide assessment of patients, planning and implementing their care and treatment and to continually evaluate and give advice to patients and others.
Handling, prescribing and administering non-prescription, prescription and controlled drugs. To administer appropriate drugs as designated by local agreement and JRCALC Guidance for use by Registered Paramedics.
Carry out invasive procedures where appropriately trained and competent
Carry out surgical procedures where appropriately trained and competent.
Carry out cardiac and CVA interventions e.g. advanced ECG recognition and diagnosis, treatment and appropriate referral, FAST test pathways for CVA where available and appropriate.
To communicate, report and document the patients’ history, condition and treatment to a full range of medical staff including colleagues, nurses, doctors and consultants either en route to or arrival at definitive care.
To determine the appropriate destination for the patient to include the initiation of treatment linked to an agreed care pathway in association with other health professionals in cases where transport to hospital is not required.
To take responsibility for the security of patients’ property during transportation as well as the safe handling of patients possessions including hand over to the appropriate agency.
To complete all patient and journey documentation associated with an episode of patient care in both electronic and written format with any other reports that ERS Medical deem necessary. To complete any documentation required e.g. patient report forms, incident reports or any other report associated with your duties including any information related to quality monitoring in a clear, concise and legible manner.
To observe safe practices as laid down in ERS Medical Policies and Procedures.
Maintain confidentiality of ERS Medical and any patient information and records notwithstanding the Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults legislation.
Ensure effective communication with other health and social care professionals for the benefit of the patient.
To assist in major incidents and when necessary act in an Incident Management Role.
To ensure that all property belonging to ERS Medical, the patient, or the customer is transported safely and securely at all times.
Co-operate with other emergency services as required.
Ensure that the required levels of equipment, consumables and drugs are maintained to required levels and are stored safely and securely according to legislation.
Make a dynamic risk assessment of the environment and general situation, having due regard for the health and safety of self and others. Responsible for the safe use of the ambulance and all equipment.
To be accountable for the safe clinical practice applied to the patient in your care whether working as an individual or as part of a crew.
To comply with the standards of conduct, performance and ethics as laid down by the Health Care Professions Council.
To maintain a flexible attitude to work patterns this will include working weekends and bank holidays.
Supply statements and attend legal proceedings as required.
Ensure that you are competent with all relevant manual and mechanical handling equipment/ devices including tail lift/ ramps and stretchers.
Qualifications
Qualified Paramedic with current HCPC registration (paramedics are to maintain HCPC registration at their own expense)
Evidence of Continual Professional Development and acquiring new skills/ knowledge in the past 2 years.
Meet ERS Medical requirements process criteria for Paramedics.
Essential social skills gained from dealing with public.
Stable employment record.
Skills and Abilities
Good verbal and written communication skills (must be able to complete all relevant paperwork accurately and legibly)
Basic IT skills including email and Microsoft word.
Hold a current manual driving licence valid in the UK and covering vehicles of categories C1 and D1 with no more than 6 points.
Satisfactory health record including the health requirements as laid down in fitness to drive for a class 2 driver.
Ability to carry out manual handling including the lifting of patients and equipment.
Proven ability to handle sensitive situations professionally, assertively and tactfully.
Good knowledge of current operational procedures and clinical practices.
Knowledge of health & safety issues.
