Job description
The HART programme creates a comprehensive capability within the ambulance service to provide paramedic level care to patients caught within hazardous situations and increasing their chances of survival. These situations may be large scale major incidents or they may include more routine incidents involving working at height, difficult access or in water. In addition to the extensive additional training in technical rescue and working within safe systems of work, HART Paramedics become proficient in the use of a wide range of specialist protective clothing and incident management equipment. A comprehensive on-going training programme which each operative follows for one week in every seven ensures that every member of the team maintains high skill standards and safe operating practices.
As a HART Paramedic you will respond to complex and protracted incidents. You will deliver paramedic interventions through one of four key HART capability areas:
Incident Response Unit IRU – for incidents involving hazardous materials.
Urban Search &Rescue USAR – including safe working at height, confined space working and difficult access.
Inland Water Operations IWO – including water rescue incidents and coastal work.
Tactical Medicine Operations – including support to security operations involving firearms or public order.
