Paramedic Education Specialist – BSc Programme
Secondment/Fixed Term until March 2016
Scottish Ambulance Academy, Glasgow Caledonian University
AfC Band 7, £31,383 - £41,373 per annum
The Scottish Ambulance Academy is based at Glasgow Caledonian University and provides clinical education programmes for the Scottish Ambulance Service. These include the Certificate of Higher Education in Ambulance Studies, the Diploma of Higher Education in Paramedic Practice and more recently a move towards delivering a post registration BSc in Paramedic Practice.  The Academy is a busy environment with over 200 students coming through the programmes in the next financial year.
To support this we are seeking to recruit an exceptional candidate to join the education and professional development team on secondment until March 2016.  The post is specifically to support the post registration BSc Paramedic Practice programme which has three specific pathways; Critical Care, Urgent and Emergency Care and Professional Development. The successful candidate will be employed as a Paramedic Education Specialist with the Scottish Ambulance Service but also hold Associate Lecturer status with Glasgow Caledonian University and will be expected to deliver teaching on a number of modules across the BSc programme which support the services strategy; Towards 2020: Taking Care to the Patient.
Candidates must be a registered health professional and must hold a first degree, preferably in a health related subject.  In addition they should hold or be willing to work towards achieving an appropriate level of teaching qualification (such as a Post Graduate Certificate in Education). They should be able to demonstrate previous experience of delivering education to students studying in a higher education setting.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach on urgent and emergency care modules so experience in these areas of healthcare would be desirable.
In return for commitment to a very busy education department the successful candidate will have access to further post graduate studies and an opportunity to develop the pre-hospital evidence base through publication.
Informal enquiries can be made to Gary Rutherford, Education Lead for Undergraduate Programmes (garyrutherford@nhs.net).
